- Determine job requirements
- Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
- Select and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
- Identify risks to be controlled
- Identify novel parts of process/materials/properties
- Compare data from past work/trials
- Obtain data for novel part of process/material
- Develop procedures which should produce the required result
- Determine required process properties
- Determine required business and sustainability measures
- Compare proposed process with existing and predict problem areas
- Identify points of difference
- Identify weaknesses with existing process
- Predict possible problems with trial process/materials
- Organise appropriate trials
- Ensure availability of adequate resources, including equipment, tools, materials, personnel and time
- Organise for the preparation of equipment/materials
- Conduct and monitor trial and record key observations and metrics
- Select appropriate manufacturing procedure
- Modify procedure and repeat trial, as appropriate
- Identify areas for improvement and take appropriate actions
- Determine procedure which will yield desired results
- Record procedure in appropriate form
- Complete all required reporting and recording according to SOPs
